Some important details ...
All travellers must have at least a double-entry visa for the PRC (China). Air Koryo does not have any agreements with other airlines, so it is not possible to 'transit' in Beijing without going through Immigration. Upon arrival in Beijing, you will need to clear Immigration and collect your luggage. Then you will need to check in at the Air Koryo counter, and go through Immigration again.
Upon return from Pyongyang, the same procedure applies. Therefore, at least two valid entry visas (double entry) are required. Please make sure you arrange for these before travelling to China.
since early 2013 it has been possible for most nationalities to obtain a 72-hour transit visa at Beijing International airport. Please enquire carefully before deciding to use this option.
The DPRK trips officially start in Beijing, and end in Beijing. All participants meet at the Beijing Capital Airport on the morning of the departure for the DPRK. Check-in time for the flight to Pyongyang is 11 am, so it is not recommended that participants arrive in Beijing on the same morning as the flight to Pyongyang. In case of delays, you will miss the flight - the plane to Pyongyang does not wait for 'missing' passengers ...
At the end of the trip, arrival in Beijing as at 10 am. That gives ample time for anyone to connect on other flights later in the day, if required. But of course, we also encourage overseas travellers to spend some time in Beijing - a truly exceptional city !
If needed, then we would be happy to suggest accommodation options in Beijing.
Please do not hesitate to contact us if you require further information on any of the above.
